Introduction
Taara is a very resilient tank that can deal a lot of damage over the course of a fight. She can play the role as main tank or back line diver. Her ult gives her a surprising amount of utility and survivability that can make up for her lack of hard CC and lower damage output. Thanks to her mobility she can easily escape ganks while split pushing a lane. Taara is a great addition to any team!

Skill Build
Passive: Fighting Spirit

Gain AD for every 1% of HP lost. AD gained scales with level.

Ability 1: Colossal Smash

Medium range leap that damages and slows enemies by 60% in a large area.

Ability 2: Whirlwind

Deals damage in a circle around Taara, hitting twice.

Ability 3: Steeled Focus

Taara heals for 8% of her max HP every second for 5 seconds and gains 30% movement speed.

Taara is a very simple hero in terms of her abilities because of how straightforward they are. Use Colossal Smash to get into range of your target which also slows them allowing you to get off both of Whirlwinds hits. If they flee, use the speed boost from Steeled Focus to stay on them until Colossal Smash is up again. Because Colossal Smash is a leap, it can be used to go over walls and is a great escape tool.

Recommended Talents
Flicker is a great all around Talent that can be taken on any hero. Taara specifically benefits from being able to use Flicker to get over a wall so she does not have to use Colossal Smash.

Sprint is a great escape tool for Taara as well as a great way to stick to slippery backline dps. It does not offer as much versatility as Flicker but can be better in some situations.

Execute gives Taara an added bit of extra damage that can be very useful because she is built nearly full tank. It can be a surprising amount of burst damage from a character that is all about consistent damage.

Items
Mantle of Ra is a very standard first item for a majority of tanks as it gives a large amount of armor as well as a good amount of Attack Damage. Also its passive gives you a burning aura that deals magic damage over time to nearby enemies. Overall great item for tanks who want to stay on a target for a prolonged amount of time to get value out of the burn passive.

Sonic Boots are very simple in what they do for Taara. Added movement speed and a good chunk of armor. The passive being the most appealing part as it reduces normal attack damage received by 15%. This will help you in fighting other warriors as well as diving backline Marksmen.

Hyoga’s Edge grants both Armor and Magic Defense as well as a sizeable amount of HP making it an all around great item for any tank. The real reason for taking this item is for its passive which grants 10% movement speed when you attack an enemy as well as slowing their movement for 25%. This passive is great as it does not have a cooldown so you can continually slow and grant yourself movement speed to stick to enemy targets.

Gaia’s Standard is a great tool to help Taara survive in prolonged fights because while it does give decent magic defense and HP, the passive is the reason for buying the item as it restores 8% of Max HP after taking damage. If a fight lasts longer than 10 seconds you can get it to proc a second time or third time to regain even more lost HP as the fight goes on.

Shield of the Lost is the bane of all marksmen and primary normal attackers out there as its passive reduces the attack speed of nearby enemies by 30%! Couple this with the fact it grants a large sum of armor and HP, this item is essential for playing the role of main tank.

Ancestral Glory is an item that revives you with 40% of your health after a short delay. This item allows you to dive the backline without fear of being bursted as you will be able to come back and continue wreaking havoc while the enemy had to waste all of their abilities on you already. This item can also be sold after you get the use of its passive for an Amulet of Longevity.

Arcana
9x [Onsalught 3] Grants 2 AD and 3.6 Armor Pierce each. Very standard arcana for physical damage dealers.

9x [Undying 3] gives 60 HP and 4.5 HP per 5 each. This item starts you on the path to being a tank while giving you some health regen to sustain in lane.

9x [Mythril 3] grants 5 Armor and Magic Defense each. Best Arcana to defend against both types of damage.

Early Game
In lane you want to take very aggressive trades against your opponent because once you hit level 4 you can immediately ult to gain the health advantage against them. Although you are a tank, your kit does not allow you to stay alive as long as other tanks who either have damage reduction or shields. Because of this you want to stick to a side lane until you have a few items, only grouping when there is a skirmish nearby.

Mid Game
Once you have Hyoga’s Edge is a great time to either start grouping or split pushing a side lane to create pressure on the map. There is very few heroes that can take Taara on a one on one fight and even less that can kill her when her ult is up. More than likely the enemy team will send 2 or more after you. Your team should be able to take an objective on the opposite side of the map without being contested. Whether that be a turret, Abyssal or even Dark Slayer.

Late Game
At this point most of the towers should be down so you should stick with your team as much as possible waiting for an enemy to overextend. You want to try to soak as much damage without dying while still trying to pressure the enemy backline or control the front line so your backline is not being threatened.

FAQ/Tips
Use Colossal Smash to hop over walls to surprise your enemies!

Don’t be afraid to use Steeled Focus just for the speed boost, a kill is more important than a 20 second cooldown.

You can sometimes use Steeled Focus during specific stuns. Specifically Aleister’s and Grak’s ults.

Matchups
Assassins

For the most part Taara beats assassins that rely on burst damage. However in some cases she struggles against those that can survive in prolonged fights.

Airi: Because of Airi’s passive she actually can put out a ton of damage over a prolonged fight. The more she normal attacks the more she is able to use her abilities making her a deadly foe for Taara who has no hard CC.

Batman: Due to the double damage Batman can do on his Forearm Strike, it is not a good idea to fight him alone as it nearly guarantees the chance you will be hit for double. His batarang is also going to be an unavoidable stun followed up by his 50% attack speed steroid ultimate. All in all he will kill you before you kill him.

Kriknak: The true damage on Mark of Horror and his built in lifesteal makes fighting Kriknak very dangerous. Also because he is much more mobile that Taara, he is usually the one who decides when he wants to fight.

Mages

Taara is a nightmare for burst and control mages alike. If she is able to survive she can instantly negate any attempt at killing her with Steeled Focus, essentially wasting the mage’s abilities.

Aleister: While it can be annoying to get caught by a Magic Prison, Taara can actually use Steeled Focus during the stun’s duration if she spams the ability. This usually allows for her to survive the duration and dive onto the mage.

Krixi: Getting onto a Krixi can be hard because she can wait for you to use your gap closer which pretty much means her knockup can’t miss. With the movement speed she gets from her passive she will quickly disengage. Also her ult is basically a constant speed up if you’re chasing her.

Natalya: Constant damage is always a threat for Taara because she has no way to interrupt it. Natalya’s laser is guaranteed to deal full damage against you due to Taara’s lack of a disruption and limited mobility.

Veera: Taara does not specifically destroy Veera but more of the mages that are only really good at bursting down targets. Taara can easily tank all of Veera’s spells and chase her down due to her lack of mobility.

Marksmen

One of Taara’s main targets in a fight is to disrupt the enemy Marksmen to stop them from killing your warriors mage or marksman. While your main goal is to kill them, annoying them long enough for your marksman to kill their tanks is enough to say your job is done.

Slimz: Taara has a lot of problems with Slimz due to his ult giving him everything he needs to kite and kill a diving tank. It gives him percent damage which makes how much health you’ve built irrelevant against him. Also it grants him a good amount of movement speed to help kite if leap isn’t enough.

Tel’Annas: Due to her lack of mobility and delayed stun she is a very easy target for Taara. The stacking slow can be annoying but can mostly be ignored from the movement speed from Steeled Focus.

Valhein: Catching a Valhein out of combat is almost always a death for him as he won’t have enough time to build up movement speed to get away. However, diving an already stacked Valhein can result in getting kited to death.

Yorn: Free kill for the most part, no mobility and an unreliable stun makes Yorn the ideal target for Taara.

Supports

In most situations Taara can take all the supports without any issues, however they can become annoying when trying to kill other targets.

Chaugnar: Due to Taara’s lack of hard CC, most of Chaugnar’s cleanses are wasted if he has to use them to stop Taara. In a one on one Taara can easily take prolonged fights with Chaugnar.

Mganga: Another support that doesn’t do much to stop what Taara is trying to accomplish as his slow isn’t very strong nor are his heals. If Taara really wants to she can easily focus him down and there isn’t much he can do about it.

Tanks

Fighting tanks is usually a great way to lose a fight due to it being a waste of time for both parties. However, stopping enemies tanks from diving or forcing them to stop you is the main focus in the matchup.

Cresht: Out of Metamorphosis he isn’t a threat to you or your team, but when he does ult there is nearly nothing you can do to stop him from getting on your backline. Taara’s slow is mostly ignored due to how much movement speed he gets as well as his ability to jump past her.

Grakk: In early teamfights, Chain can be a death sentence if it is followed up on by another hard CC. Most of the time you can use Collosal Smash to avoid getting stunned by his ult. However if you are stunned by it you can still activate Steeled Focus to start healing through his and anyone else’s damage. Chain can be a very easy way for you to make your way to the backline.

Omega: Due to his low CD knockup and stun Omega can be the most annoying counter diving hero as he also gets an annoying amount of shields which makes him not worth focusing. Overall he is just an annoying champion for Taara to play against.

Thane: If it wasn’t for his high damage ultimate, Thane would pretty much be a support who’s only purpose was to peel. Outside of his ultimate he is no threat to Taara in a one vs one but he can be very annoying when trying to kill mages or marksmen.

Warriors

Very similar to assassins, warriors struggling dealing with Taara unless they have very high constant DPS. Those that due can be very annoying for Taara, and those that don’t can be easily killed in a war of attrition.

Arthur: Taara does very similar damage to Arthur and has a very similar build path. The difference comes down to Taara’s ultimate which allows her to eventually out live Arthur’s damage.

Lubu: Conqueror is a very dangerous ability for Taara to fight head on as it gives Lubu the tools he needs to take a prolonged fight. However the 8 second duration can be waited out before engaging on him.

Zanis: Fighting Zanis can be a good idea or a very bad idea based on how many kills or assists he’s be able to get. If it’s less than 10 then he shouldn’t be a problem for Taara, if its more than that he does begin to heavily out damage Taara and can easily melt her with his 40% attack speed steroid.

Zuka: For the most part, Taara can easily handle Zuka. The only problem is that Taara has a hard time fighting Zuka if he doesn’t want to fight her. He has plenty of mobility to get away from Taara. However, if he does choose to fight he can be killed in a prolonged fight due to most of his damage being burst.
